Essay Writing Once you have a list of possible topics, it's time to choose the best one that will answer the question posed for your essay. You want to choose a topic that is neither too broad nor too narrow. While this sounds like a lot of steps to write a simple essay, if you follow them you will be able to write more successful, clear and cohesive essays. For some, writing an essay is as simple as sitting down at their computer and beginning to type. But, a lot more planning goes into writing an essay successfully. This is the most important sentence in the paragraph that tells readers what the rest of the paragraph will be about. Fill in supporting facts from your research under each paragraph. Make sure each paragraph ties back to your thesis and creates a cohesive, understandable essay. Once you have done your brainstorming and chosen your topic, you may need to do some research to write a good essay. The concluding sentence closes your subject with an emphasis on the final product or process desired by the topic. In an expository paragraph, you give information. You explain a subject, give directions, or show how something happens. In expository writing, linking words like first, second, then, and finally are usually used to help readers follow the ideas. Unfortunately, we are not hiring writers now due to low season. Fortunately, these tips for writing essays can help you along the way and get you on the path to a well-written essay. Support your thesis adequately with the information in your paragraphs. Each paragraph should have its own topic sentence. When you read a textbook, the news, magazine articles, or any other types of publications, you are reading expository writing. When you write answers for an essay test, you use the expository form. This handout should help students become familiar and comfortable with the process of essay composition through the introduction of some common essay genres. For our purposes in this class, you will always use third person point of view when writing expository paragraphs, unless otherwise directed. This means there should be no “I” or “you” words anywhere in the paragraph. This paragraph, like any other, organizes itself around three parts. A topic sentence allows the reader to understand what you are writing about. The middle part of the paragraph contains supporting sentences that follow one another in a logical sequence of steps. Choose the best topic idea from among your list and begin moving forward on writing your essay. But, before you move forward, take heed of these topics to avoid. Go to the library or search online for information about your topic. Interview people who might be experts in the subject.
